The Rocket Story

Rocket Music is David Holmes. Armed with his Bachelor of Music from the University of Tasmania, four years of teaching, a Diploma of Audio Engineering and countless hours as a session musician working in the Film & TV Industry, David decided to start his own studio in 1990 and called it, Rocket Music.

Rocket started composing music for TV commercials, documentaries and in more recent years, short films and lifestyle shows. The value and quality of this work has been well recognised by the industry and Rocket has received many accolades including Broadcast and Design Awards and Australian Television Awards for highly commended works in audio production on TV Commercials including McDonalds, FHM magazine and Smith Snack Foods. Other TV commercials Rocket has worked on include AAMI, AFL, ANZ, Arnotts, Audi, Bonds, Coca Cola, ESPN Sports, Ford, Heineken, Johnson & Johnson, Kahlua, Kellogs, Lion Nathan, Master Foods, Master Card, Mitsubishi, Mobil, Nescafe, Nestle, Nike, Nissan, NRMA, NRL, Optus, Pepsi, Philips, Qantas, Sanitarium, Slazenger, Schweppes and Volkswagon.

Rocket Music is based at the Fox Studios Complex in Sydney and works globally. Rocket recently composed music for several major international advertising campaigns for Puma, Cathay Pacific, Honda and Microsoft.

In 2008 Rocket also scored several 2 hour documentaries for FOXTEL, one being ‘The 100 Year History of NRL” and ‘The History of Horse Racing” and more recently the opening and closing theme to Australian Families of Crime, as well as incidental music to Crime Investigation Australia.

When he’s not running Rocket, David engages in a number of musical projects, and still enjoys playing guitar in various bands around Sydney. He also enjoys recording new artists often calling in favours from some of his old Sydney session musician mates.
